When running the prerequisite checker you sometimes see the following error – “ASP.NET 2.0 is Required”.
Click on the More button and you get a nice helpful message telling you how to fix it.
Unfortunately this only works on 32 bit servers but confusingly a 64 bit server also has this directory.
The directory to run this command [...]

The client I am working with uses IBM hardware. At a previous client they also had that hardware and had downloaded the files for me. I wanted to check that I had the latest version.
The MP catalogue still says the original version but that is not always the case so I followed the link to [...]

I saw this in the newsgroup and thought it was worth passing on to a wider audience.
From Åke Pettersson [MSFT] 21st May 2008.
Hello, so let me try to give you a bit of context around what we are trying to do, and the reasons behind the schedule changes.
With the release of the updated Management Pack [...]

System Center Capacity Planner 2007 has been out for a while but it is only recently that the OpsMgr 2007 model has been released. I was looking at it to see how it stands up and used a number of clients that I have designed and sized up to see what it would come up [...]

Daniel Savage, Program Manager, has posted a command line tool to see the data warehouse grooming settings (or retention policies as he calls them) and change them. At last you don’t have to go into SQL and find the right tables and run a set of SQL commands.

Thanks Daniel. Can we have a GUI version [...]

So you have read the PDF, watched the video and subscribed to the blog. You may even have read Anders’s post on setting up Xplat with SUSE with some good screenshots or even Daniele Muscetta’s post where he edited the files to manage CentOS which is not officially supported. (By the way on the beta [...]

The last two posts I have been mentioning that one OML can monitor all the agents on a virtual server as it is one device. And that is how it started anyway. I had a note from a friend at Microsoft which is why my last post had a warning on the end. Anyway here [...]

I was explaining the differences between the Standard and Enterprise OML to a client which is athttp://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/opsmgr/howtobuy/opsmgrstdoml.mspx
Interestingly one of the MPs that they say only needs a Standard OML is WSS. But WSS requires IIS and .Net v3.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/sharepoint/bb684454.aspx
Therefore having it as a basic workload does not make sense as the only way to use it [...]

Raymond Chou, MVP in Malaysia, has a number of tips when designing SCOM.
http://mymomexperience.blogspot.com/2008/05/operations-manager-2007-design-tips.html
I don’t disagree with them but you need to caveat these tips with the fact that these are tips for big systems like the blueprint I did for a 5000 agent system.
If you have 31 servers (which is one above the limit for [...]

I like the Silect product and it is nice to see they are giving away a free version. If you look at this page you can see what it does and what all the other versions do at a glance and see what functionality you are missing out on.

I did download the Lite version that [...]
